Score High in IELTS: The Barometer of Your Proficiency
IELTS is your launchpad whether you’re eyeing a higher education or advancement in career, a high band score moves you closer to your dream destination.
The Secret to Scoring 8+ in IELTS
Whether it’s the Academic or General IELTS, your success depends on two factors: a clear understanding of the question, and the best way to respond. The four sections of the IELTS gauge your competence through a battery of questions. If you know them all, understand them well and practice the right way, success is yours.
IELTS is a very simple but standard test for ascertaining English proficiency of a candidate. It is simple for two reasons. One is that it grades every test taker independent of any other. There is no percentile system where your score is affected by the performance of others. And two is that the difficulty level of questions in all the sections viz. listening, reading, writing, and speaking, is quite average unlike competitive exams. It is standard because most of the universities around the world especially Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Europe consider IELTS scores in their admission processes. Of late many universities in the US have also started accepting IELTS scores.
Most IELTS test takers find difficulty in the Reading and Writing sections of the exam. Weak understanding of the mechanics of English grammar is one of the reasons for their poor performance in the Writing section. People struggle with concepts and they try to memorize the rules instead of learning and understanding. If you find yourself in the same spot, then you must build your base alongside practicing writing and employing your learning in your writing tasks. You can gain command on all concepts of English grammar through our video based online English course. If you follow the approach given there and revise all the concepts, you will notice a remarkable improvement in your understanding and writing. You can purchase our course English for Competitive Exams here.
Once you have a strong foundation, you will see improvement in all other areas of the test as well whether it is the Reading section or Speaking section. To score well in the Reading section of IELTS, you also need to have a clear understanding of different types of questions asked in the test and the right approach to go about them. There are 15 different types of questions that are asked in the IELTS Reading Test. All these question types along with the right way to solve them are given in our IELTS Reading Module. Another area where you can easily score 8+ is the Listening section of IELTS. Besides knowing the question types and the right way to solve them, it is also important to know some very important concepts to avoid losing marks.
